An Eastern Iowa Restaurant is Changing Its Name Next Week
Say goodbye to Caucho, and say hello to Lacayo!
Just yesterday (November 15th), the restaurant Caucho in Cedar Rapids made a big announcement on their Facebook page. They revealed that the popular restaurant will be changing its name next week! The post reads:
"Over the past 7 months, we have slowly been growing our menu to focus on cuisine from Central & South American, as well as the Iberian Peninsula. While we kept some popular items that make Caucho unique, we feel that with this growth, we have created a new identity for ourselves. We would like to officially announce that Caucho will be renamed, Lacayo, starting next week. Of course we will still keep some of your favorite items and practices that make Caucho so special, but we will also continue to grow with our new identity."
Caucho first opened at 1202 3rd St SE back in 2017 under owners Carrie and Andy Schumacher, who also own Cobble Hill in Downtown Cedar Rapids. Then, in early April of 2023, Caucho was officially sold to Daniel & Armina Lacayo. The original announcement from Caucho's Facebook page said that, with two restaurants and three children, Carrie and Andy could not give "the energy and love to everything that [they] wanted to." That's why they decided to hand over the reins to Daniel & Armina, who they consider to be family.
Caucho's current menu features items like Elotitos, Pork Steak, Peruvian Ceviche, Tres Leches Cake, Roasted Beet Salad, Pescado, a variety of tacos, and more. I visited back in June, and I tried the Chips & Guac, the Queso Fundido and the Quesabirria Tacos. They were all AMAZING.
