450 Jobs Coming to Waterloo This Summer
Less than a week ago, a major fire took out "a 1500-square foot queue shelter building," at Lost Island Theme Park in Waterloo, according to KWWL. Luckily, no one was hurt or injured, and multiple individuals called 911.
Despite the fire that received attention all over the Cedar Valley and state-wide, the owner of the Lost Island theme and water park, Eric Bertch, plans to open in late May or early June this summer. 450 jobs will be available at the location on the southeast side of Waterloo.
To fill those positions, the park will hold two job fairs this month, per KWWL.
The first will be Wednesday, March 16, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Isle Casino Hotel, 777 Isle of Capri Blvd, in Waterloo.
The second will be Saturday, March 19, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at College Square Mall, 6301 University Avenue, in Cedar Falls.
Those interested can also find an application at: thelostisland.com/jobs. There are positions available at both the theme park and water park.
Jobs available at the theme park include concessions, guest services, games attendants, maintenance, merchandise, park services, parking attendants, ride operators, ride attendants, and security.
The waterpark jobs that can be applied for are concessions, guest services, lifeguard, maintenance, and... mermaid.
Here's the description from the park's site and how to apply, in case you're interested in being a mythical creature this summer:
"We are in need of a few strong swimmers with acting experience to join the Lost Island Mermaid pod! Our mermaids are responsible for creating magical guest experiences through daily underwater performances and the Mermaid Experience classes. If you are 21 or older, good with children, able to open your eyes underwater, and can hold your breath for at least 30 seconds, send in your audition request to: firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include a headshot or video reel along with a short explanation of your qualifications, why you are interested in the position, and what you think the most challenging part of the job will entail."
