On September 3, 1985, the Teddy Ruxpin Storytelling Bear first went on sale. It went on to become the best-selling toy of 1985 and 1986. Six months after its initial release, more than one million were sold.

Teddy's mouth and eyes moved while he told stories which were played via an audio tape & cassette deck built into its back.

The cost of Teddy Ruxpin was $69.99, plus an additional $20 for an additional cassette tape and book. There's a never-been-opened Teddy Ruxpin from 1985 currently going for over $100 on eBay.

Phil Baron was the voice actor on all tapes and on the TV show. He also created and voiced The Adventures of Timmy the Tooth in the mid 1990s.
