Oelwein Police have arrested 3 northeast Iowa men for their involvement in an armed robbery 2 weeks ago.


The incident happened just after 9pm on January 11th, in the 300 block of West Charles, under the viaduct in Oelwein.

The victim was out for a walk when he was approached by two men. One of the assailants grabbed the victim and put him in a choke hold.

Another man pulled out a handgun and showed it to the victim, striking him in the head several times with the weapon.

After taking property from the victim, the two men ran from the area.

The suspects were identified in the investigation, and two days later, authorities executed a search warrant at 102 8th Avenue NW, Apartment 13D in Oelwein. During the search, a traffic stop was also conducted in the 300 block of East Charles Street; a suspect was arrested and officers seized a handgun and ammunition.

As a result of this investigation, 3 young men have been arrested: 19 year old Stephan Loers of Cedar Falls for Robbery in the 1st Degree and Carrying Weapons; 18 year old Tyrin Jones of Waterloo, for Robbery 1st Degree; and 18 year old Shawnnessy Washington of Waterloo for Accessory after the fact.

More charges are pending, as the case remains under investigation.

Oelwein Police were assisted by the Cedar Falls Police Department and Iowa State Patrol.
