Authorities have now released the name of a man killed in a three vehicle accident Sunday night (June 16), near Iowa City.


It happened at about 9:30pm at mile marker 234 on Interstate 80 in Johnson County. According to the Iowa State Patrol, a car driven by 32 year old Stephen Lucore of Iowa City, was traveling the wrong way in the right-hand eastbound lane of the interstate, and collided head-on with a vehicle driven by 31 year old David Sawyer of Frisco, Texas.

A passenger, 64 year old Robert Sawyer of Nocona, Texas, was killed in the accident.
A third vehicle, driven by 34 year old Michael Griffin of Memphis, Tennessee, struck debris at the crash scene.

Lucore and a passenger in one of the vehicles, were taken to University Hospitals in Iowa City for treatment.

The State Patrol was assisted by the Iowa D.O.T., Johnson County Sheriff, Iowa City Police, Coralville Police, along with rescue units from Coralville, Oxford, Tiffin Johnson County, Iowa County, and Aircare.
