A weekend traffic accident near Sumner has put 3 area people in the hospital.


It happened at about 10am Sunday (Dec. 29), at the intersection of Bremer County Roads V-56 and C-33, south of Sumner.

A westbound car driven by 16 year old Nathan Dolf of Westgate, stopped, but then entered the intersection, broadsiding a southbound car driven by 63 year old Patrick Hughes of Sumner.

Hughes, along with his passenger, 68 year old Cynthia Pierson-Hughes of Sumner, and a passenger in Dolf's car, 21 year old Rachel Dolf of Westgate, were taken to the Sumner Hospital to be treated for unspecified injuries.

All of the occupants of the vehicles were wearing their seat belts.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Bremer County Sheriff, Sumner Fire, and EMS.
