3 Hurt in Crash, As Driver Falls Asleep at the Wheel
Floyd county authorities are investigating an accident in which the driver fell asleep, crashing into the median, sending three people to the hospital.
It happened Sunday morning, at around 6:45am, just west of Rudd on the Avenue of the Saints. A pickup driven by 19 year old Bryce Hutchinson of Morton, Illinois, was westbound, when Hutchinson fell asleep at the wheel.
The truck entered the median where it slid, rolled over, and came to rest back on the road.
Hutchinson and his two passengers, 48 year old Bradley Huchinson of Morton, Illinois, and 50 year old Timothy Lee of Mackinaw, Illinois, were taken to a Mason City Hospital for treatment.
The accident remains under investigation, and charges are pending.
The Floyd County Sheriff is also reminding drivers to slow down when approaching an area with flashing emergency lights: as authorities tended to this accident scene, another vehicle passed close by, going 68 miles an hour. At the time, traffic was narrowed to one lane, with a deputy, 2 troopers, 2 ambulances and 4 fire trucks present, as well as the victims of the original crash.
