Voters in 2 Northeast Iowa counties are going to the polls today, to consider funding new jails.

In Allamakee County, residents are being asked to approve a bond referendum of $5.1 million to build a new county jail, sheriff's office, dispatch center, and emergency management office, to be located in Waukon.

And in Delaware County, officials want the public to approve $4.9 million in general obligation bonds for reconstructing, enlarging, improving and finishing the county jail and sheriff's office, located in Manchester.

State inspectors have found safey and security issues at both facilities.

Polls in both counties are open from 7am to 8pm today.
