A rollover accident involving a semi forced the temporary partial closure of a highway interchange in Cedar Falls early Friday.

Public safety officers were dispatched to the U.S. Highway 218 southbound ramp off Iowa Highway 58 just after 5 AM. When authorities, they discovered a semi-truck had turned over.

Officials said the driver lost control of the rig, which was owned by A&Y Logistics LLC of Apple Valley, Minn., a Minneapolis suburb. The semi rolled onto its side and spilled a large amount of its cargo. The truck was hauling a shipment of Amazon packages, many of which ended up in a deep ditch.

Cedar Falls public safety officials identified the driver as Mohammed Ahmed of Burnsville, Minn., also Minneapolis suburb. Ahmed was not injured in the accident.

Woman hit by school bus

Also in northeast Iowa, a pedestrian was struck by a school bus and killed. The incident happened Thursday morning in Guttenberg.

The Iowa State Patrol identified the victim as 66-year-old Judy Puls of Guttenberg. Authorites said Puls was attempting to cross a street when the bus turned.

Authorities identified the bus driver as 73-year-old Ronnie Moser of Guttenberg. The bus is owned by the Clayton Ridge School District.
