Authorities are investigating a Sunday afternoon shooting at a Waterloo convenience store.

The Courier reports the incident happened at approximately 2:45 p.m. when a man carrying a gun entered the Kwik Star at 707 Broadway St. and ordered everyone out of the store.

Officers responding surrounded the store while the suspect was still inside. Shortly after arrival the suspect exited the store firing his weapon at police. The officers on the scene returned fire and struck the suspect. Witnesses claimed to hear at least four gunshots during the incident.

Police Chief Dan Trelka says all officers involved were unharmed, as well as Kwik Star employees and customers. The case is still under investigation.
