Eastern Iowans have a chance to see one of the most popular authors of the 21st century in person this year.

Well over a decade ago, I remember cracking open a young adult novel called Looking For Alaska. I dove right into this book after seeing the author, John Green on YouTube with his brother Hank.

This novel was one of the first books that resonated with me since I picked up the Harry Potter series years earlier. Green did not try to dumb down his articulate ideas for the young people picking up his book.

The book had me contemplating important ideas like loss, friendship, and what life truly means. After that, I went on to read the rest of his novels.

Green is the bestselling author behind Looking for Alaska, An Abundance of Katherines, Paper Towns, The Fault in Our Stars, and Turtles All the Way Down.

The Fault In Our Stars was made into a hit movie in 2014 that starred A-lister Shailene Woodley.

Last year, a film adaptation of his most recent novel Turtles All the Way Down came out on Max.

Over the past few years Green has also stepped into the world of non-fiction. In 2021, the New York Times bestselling author released the THE ANTHROPOCENE REVIEWED: Essays on a Human-Centered Planet.

This work is a collection of "insightful personal essays adapted and expanded from his popular podcast of the same name."

Not only is he a well-known author, but he’s a big name in the online space. His brother Hank and him are known as the Vlogbrothers on YouTube.

The duo are also behind the hit educational video series Crashcourse.

On March 18th, Green will be releasing yet another non-fiction work entitled Everything Is Tuberculosis: The History and Persistence of Our Deadliest Infection.

In support of this new book, the multi-media philanthropist will be going out on a small tour this March.
