Every single time you watch a movie or television show that was based off of a work of literature, you hear the same four words from a group of loyal fans.

"The book was better..."

The author behind a popular dystopian franchise spoke up about this recently.

Over the course of one weekend, nearly 100,000 people flocked to Chicago for C2E2, (otherwise known as Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo). The fan convention celebrated all sorts of pop culture, from comics to beloved television shows, from March 31st to April 2nd.

Some of the big draws of these types of events are the celebrity guests and panels. At this year's convention, some of the big panels included a 'Boy Meets World' reunion, Zachary Levi Q&A, and a spotlight panel with Chris Evans.

Another smaller event was a Imagining Tomorrow: World Building in Science Fiction that featured multiple science fiction authors. The authors who were a part of this discussion were; John Jackson Miller, J.S. Dewes, Sylvain Neuvel, Sue Burke, and Veronica Roth.

Roth quickly rose to prominence after her popular young adult 'Divergent' series. Her novels were turned into three movies starring Shailene Woodley, Ashley Judd, Kate Winslet, and Miles Teller.

"In a world divided by factions based on virtues, Tris learns she's Divergent and won't fit in. When she discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and the mysterious Four must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it's too late."

During the panel, Roth was asked about what it was like to see her written world adapted for film. The New York Times Bestselling author gave an honest and smart answer about the entire process.

"It was weird! Some of it was good, some of it was bad..." Roth explained.

"It's a new way of rediscovering your work through someone else's eyes, which is exciting if you can open yourself to the experience."

She went on to say that the scene that looked exactly the same way that she pictured it in the book was "the choosing scene" from the very first movie.

After her appearance at C2E2, the author confirmed in a social media post that she tested positive for COVID-19. Roth was experiencing some other health problems. Luckily, as she confirmed in her post "all is well."

Roth's newest book is a novella titled "Arch-Conspirator" that is a science fiction reimagining of the play "Antigone." Her latest work was released towards the end of February.
