It looks like a new restaurant is moving into Downtown Cedar Rapids, right on the heels of some major business closures.

In mid-July, news came out that the restaurant Barrel House would be closing its Cedar Rapids location for good.

Located at 102 2nd St SE, the eatery opened in May of 2022.

There are several more Barrel House locations all across the state including:

  • 3230 Redhawk St, Coralville
  • 295 Tower Terrace Rd, Marion
  • 211 E 2nd St, Davenport
  • 5141 Utica Ridge Rd, Davenport
  • 299 Main St, Dubuque

When One Door Closes, Another One Opens

One evening, I was driving around Downtown Cedar Rapids when I noticed some work being done on the closed restaurant. I peeked my head around the corner and noticed some signage going up.

The signs read "CityWalk Eatery: Coming Soon."

After doing some digging on this restaurant that will be opening up in the old Barrel House location, I came up a bit short.

However, there are currently two job listings for the business on Indeed. City Walk officials are looking for a Head Chef and a Line Cook/Prep Cook for the new business.

There seems to be no Facebook page or website for the restaurant just yet.

However, there is an Instagram that was recently created for the business. It does not give away much, but the team behind CityWalk did post a photo inside of the location a few weeks ago.

The team seems to be currently renovating the space.

I reached out to the team on social media and heard back! City Walk Eatery will be "an upscale American eatery."

The restaurant owners plan to open up for business this fall. Officials confirmed that the eatery would most likely open sometime in October.

City Walk will be open for lunch and dinner and will serve up menu items that include rib-eye, steaks, trout, pastas, wraps, and sandwiches.

This is still a developing story. We will make sure to keep you informed when more information is made available.
