It appears the University of Iowa men's basketball team will be losing a pair of players, one of them a starter.

Two players announced Wednesday that they plan to depart the program. The first is Josh Ogundele. You may recall that the 6'10" 275-pound junior announced he intended to transfer after last season. He entered the transfer portal but ultimately returned to Iowa.

Ogundele battled a knee injury for much of the 2022-23 season and appeared in only 11 games, playing a total of 71 minutes on the season.

Ogundele posted a message on Instagram that read in part, “...Thank you to my teammates, coaching staff and fans for embracing me over the past three years. At this time, I believe it is in my best interest to enter the transfer portal as I continue to chase my dreams.”

The other player to announce his plan to transfer was Ahron Ulis.

Uhlis, a 6'3" 190-pound junior guard, started 27 games this season for the Hawkeyes. He played an average of 22 minutes per game, scoring 6.1 points and pulling down 1.6 rebounds per outing.

Uhlis' post on Instagram said in part, “I want to thank the Iowa coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to play college basketball at this level and become a Big Ten champion. I also would like to thank my teammates and fans for embracing and supporting me over the past three years. I have built lifelong relationships and brotherhoods during my time as a Hawkeye... ”

In the release from the University of Iowa coach Fran McCaffery said, “We are all appreciative of Ahron and Josh’s contributions to our program the past three years. Both were good teammates on three NCAA Tournament teams and helped us win a Big Ten championship. Both Ahron and Josh have bright futures. My staff and I will assist both players during this transition.”

The Hawkeyes have commitments for next season from Iowa high school player of the year Pryce Sandfort (brother of current player Payton Sandfort), Ladji Dembele (St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, New Jersey), along with forward Owen Freeman and point guard Brock Harding, both from Moline.
