Officials Investigate Claims of Contaminated Gas at a CR Casey’s
State officials have completed their investigation into claims that gasoline at a Cedar Rapids Casey's location might have been contaminated.
KCRG reports that they received multiple complaints on their Facebook page from viewers who stated that they had car troubles after purchasing gas at the Casey's location on Mt. Vernon Road SE in Cedar Rapids. KCRG reached out to Casey's about the complaints and the very next day, KCRG reports that Casey's inspected the tanks.
The Iowa Department of Agriculture is in charge of inspecting fuel pumps and quality of fuel in the state. KCRG reports that the department of agriculture also tested the pumps after TV-9 reported the complaints. Officials stated that when there is an issue with gas, it usually affects many consumers. KCRG reports that the agency has had 29 complaints about fuel quality this year, with 12 turning out to be actual issues. The most common contaminant? Water, which can cause severe damage to a vehicle's engine.
The good news for consumers in this case is that KCRG reports that both investigations found no signs of contaminants in the gasoline sold at that Casey's location. The Iowa Department of Agriculture stated that if anyone thinks they got bad gasoline, to call and report the issue immediately. The department will inspect any consumer complaint.
