The final available cookie through the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois this year was just debuted this week! They're called Exploremores.
About the New Cookie
According to the Little Brownie Bakers website, Exploremores are a sandwich cookie inspired by the classic ice cream flavor Rocky Road. The description says they are "cookies filled with flavors of chocolate, marshmallow and toasted almond crème." I'M SO IN.
When Can I Start Buying Cookies?
... RIGHT NOW!
After putting my Cedar Rapids zip code into the Girl Scouts' website, this is the message that came up:
"The official Girl Scout cookie season for your local council, Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois, has started!"
Buying Girl Scout Cookies is now easier than ever with the Digital Cookie online program and nationwide shipping, but you'll also be able to buy them from cookie booths at area businesses once cookies arrive. You can enter your zip code on the Cookie Finder website for a list of local cookie booths as the season moves along.
Boxes of Girl Scout Cookies are $6 apiece, with all of the net revenue benefitting local Girl Scout Troops. The website adds that most councils run cookies sales from January through April.
Why Buy Girl Scout Cookies?
As a former Girl Scout, I can tell you that the annual cookie season was our absolute favorite time of the year (aside from our trips to Girl Scout Camp). But, the organization is about more than just delicious cookies. The Girl Scouts website says, "when you buy Girl Scout Cookies, you help young entrepreneurs develop five essential life skills." Those five skills are:
- Goal Setting
- Decision Making
- Money Management
- People Skills
- Business Ethics
