There will be new policies at the Boone County Fair

Hold onto your hats, fairgoers! The Boone County Fair is upping the security game starting Thursday, July 18, and running through the end of the fair. But don’t worry, they’re not turning it into a top-secret mission – just making sure everyone has a safe and fun time! Here’s the lowdown on what’s changing and how to navigate it like a pro

🎒 No Backpacks, No Problem! 🏆
Forget about lugging your giant backpack full of snacks, games, and maybe your pet hamster. Instead, you can bring a clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bag no bigger than 12” x 6” x 12” – think “tiny lunchbox” size. Or grab a one-gallon freezer bag for your snacks (and maybe a little extra room for fair-related goodies). For a fashion-forward twist, a small clutch bag no bigger than 4.5” x 6.5” is also allowed. Perfect for your phone, wallet, and that all-important map to the cotton candy stand!

🔍 Security Check: Get Ready for the New Fun Line! 🎟️
You might encounter a metal detector or two on your way in. Just pretend you’re on a game show where the prize is “A Day at the Fair!” If they find anything on you that’s not allowed, you can either toss it or return it to your car. It’s like a mini treasure hunt, but without the treasure!

🚓 Police Presence: More Cops, More Cookies! 🍪
Columbia Police Department is bringing extra officers for a friendly patrol during fair hours. They’re not there to crash the party – they’re there to keep things in line and maybe enjoy a cookie or two from the bake sale!

🔫 Weapons? No Way! Masks? No Thanks! 🎭
No weapons, please! And leave those spooky masks at home – unless you’re dressing up as a giant stuffed animal, which might actually be okay. Also, alcohol, illegal drugs, and drug paraphernalia are out.

🚗 Parking Lot Party Poopers! 🚶
Loitering in the parking lot is a no-go. If you’re hanging around, they might ask you to head back to your car. Think of it as a challenge to get back to the fair’s exciting stuff ASAP!

🚪 Once You’re Out, You’re Out! 🎢
Decided to leave the fairgrounds? Great! But remember, reentry is a no-can-do. You’ll have to stay away for the rest of the day. It’s like the world’s most fun “no reentry” rule!
