Record Powerball Drawing Held After Security Delay

UPDATE: The record-breaking Powerball drawing that was delayed by a security issue has now been held. According to CBS2, the winning numbers are: 10, 33, 41, 47, and 56, and the red Powerball was 10. USA Today says that updated calculations had seen the jackpot grow to $2.04 billion dollars by Tuesday morning. A winner has not been identified.

ORIGINAL STORY: The record-breaking, $1.9-billion Powerball jackpot does not yet have a winner-but, not for the normal reason. Monday night's drawing couldn't be held due to what lottery officials called a "security protocol", according to CBS2.

It shouldn't take long to sort out, with the results likely being released sometime Tuesday, but the issue involved a participating state having difficulty processing ticket sales, according to a statement.

The statement said, in part:

Powerball requires all 48 participating lotteries to submit their sales and play data prior to the winning numbers being selected. Once Powerball receives the outstanding submission, the drawing can proceed

The drawing and winning numbers will be posted via the Powerball website and YouTube channel. A pretty huge blunder for such a historic moment, but they want to get it right, and they also note that it is against policy to name the lottery that is experiencing the delay.

An additional subplot as the AP notes, is that if the delayed Monday night drawing still doesn't yield a winner, it will tie the record for the most Powerball drawings held without a winner, at 41.
