Call it a sad testament to the times we live in. Or, call it just being vigilant, aware of your surroundings, and being extra safe.

According to WHO-TV, the pastor of a church in Des Moines recently installed a bulletproof pulpit in case there's ever a shooting in the place of worship. He calls it "The Sermonator". It has a built-in gun cabinet, so the pastor can pull out his gun and return fire in case of an attack.

Naming the pulpit "The Sermonator" would lend people to think this is a joke, but, unfortunately it's not.

According to Fort Des Moines Church of Christ Pastor Mike Demastus, the staff does everything to ensure the safety of their congregation. Some of the measures they've taken include a five-person "Safety Team" with head pieces, security cameras, medical trauma bags, and they've even taken down the signs that point to the nursery. Members now escort parents to the nursery.

When people wonder why they're doing all this, Demastus said: "It's all about the fact that we love each other. We love each other enough to make sure that we're gonna be safe".

And in this day and age, it's better to be safe than sorry.
