The Waterloo Black Hawks edged the Chicago Steel 1-0 in a thriller Tuesday night (April 4, 2017) inside Young Arena. Waterloo wraps up the USHL regular season this weekend at home.

The Steel thought they had taken the lead 14:04 into the second period, but Jake Jaremko’s shot was ruled to have hit the post at the left of Beydoun and come out. The puck landed under the Waterloo netminder, and after a whistle, the officials reviewed the play and let the “no goal” call stand.

The lone goal came late in the game. Emil Ohrvall came up the ice on a two-on-one rush and saucered a pass to Nick Swaney on right wing. The Waterloo sniper stepped into the circle and fired a shot over Dayton Rasmussen’s shoulder to put the Hawks in front. That proved to be the winning goal.

The Black Hawks wrap up the 2016/17 United States Hockey League regular season with a pair of games at Young Arena. They play the Fargo Force both Friday and Saturday. Both teams have clinched a playoff spot. Waterloo is locked in as the second seed. Fargo could end up third or fourth.

It will be UAW Weekend; all UAW Local 838 members with ID will receive $8 tickets. To order or for more information, call the Domino’s Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680.

The USHL Clark Cup Playoffs begins next week.
