Best & Worst States To Be A Police Officer

National Police Week is being observed across the country this week with everything from memorial services to vigils and ceremonies to honor the memory of fallen law enforcement officers who have given their lives in the line of duty.

According to Wallet Hub, In the past 10 years, for instance, more than 1,500 police officers, including 158 in 2018 alone, died in the line of duty. Tens of thousands more were assaulted and injured.

That being said, what are the best vs. worst states for police officers? Wallet Hub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 27 key indicators of "police-friendliness". The data set ranges from median income, law-enforcement officers per capita, public image, to police deaths per 1,000 officers and more.

So, where did Iowa fall? The bad news? Not in the Top 10. The good news? Not in the bottom 10. Actually, the state of Iowa fared pretty well, coming in at #16. Iowa's total score was 49.97, less than 3 points away from cracking the top 10.
