Young Decorah Eagle Found Dead on Area Road

One of the 6 Decorah eagles that hatched earlier this year, has been found dead, along a road in Northeast Iowa.
The eagle, known as D-25, was hatched in March; it was found dead on Monday.

The people at the Raptor Resource Project in Decorah, determined there was a problem with the young bird, because they had been tracking it with a sensor, which had not moved for some time.

As the transmitter was still working, officials were able to locate the eagle, alongside a road between Maynard and Westgate in Fayette County.

The eagle appeared to have been scavenging a dead raccoon, when he was struck and killed by a vehicle.

The bird's carcass was sent to the National Wildlife Health Center in Madison, Wisconsin, for a necropsy.

Raptor personnel also decided to check on D-24, one of the other young eagles being tracked, that had located near Delhi. That bird is reportedly doing fine.
