A woman in a motorized wheelchair who was run over by a semi in Waterloo, is expected to recover.

The accident happened late Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Franklin and East Fifth streets in Waterloo.

An unidentified woman, who was riding a motorized wheelchair, was apparently trying to cross the road, but was struck by a semi truck that was in the process of making a turn.

The woman sustained serious injuries; she was taken to a local hospital, but her injuries were reportedly not life-threatening.

According to sources, the woman was on her way to church to play bingo, when the accident happened.
