WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Waterloo authorities say a woman was hospitalized after a fire broke out in her hotel room.

An employee at Quality Inn & Suites says he received a call for help from a woman, and when he reached her hotel floor, he found heavy smoke coming from her room.

Battalion Chief Mike Moore says the woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, adding that her injuries were not life-threatening.

Investigators are working to determine what caused the Monday night fire.

The hotel worker says guests were briefly evacuated from the building.
