WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A construction worker is recovering after being injured in trench collapse in Waterloo.

The collapse happened Thursday morning during work on the city's storm sewer system. Rescue officials say two workers were in the trench when part of an adjacent road surface collapsed and chunks of concrete fell on them. Co-workers were able to use equipment to lift some of the concrete off the workers before rescue crews arrived.

Only one worker was taken to a hospital for injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
