WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Waterloo police have arrested a 25-year-old man who they say intentionally rammed his SUV into two patrol cars and hospitalized two officers.

The suspect, Kelvin Plain Junior, was being held at the Black Hawk County jail Wednesday. He faces a first-degree criminal mischief charge and two counts of assaulting a police officer.

Police say Plain threatened the officers before leaving the scene of a domestic dispute the officers responded to on Tuesday. They say he returned a few minutes later and accelerated into a squad car, which hit another.

Officers Randall Hammitt and Brooke Carter were hospitalized with minor injuries and released Tuesday. The suspect, Plain, was treated for unspecified injuries at the hospital before being taken to jail.

Plain had been free on bond, pending a trial for an October drug charge, and a shooting from April of 2012.
