WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Waterloo city leaders are worried about their representation on a board planning to spend millions of dollars on a new Black Hawk County emergency radio system.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1zJqzKz ) that Waterloo City Attorney Jim Walsh and Safety Services Director Dan Trelka voiced their concerns during a county meeting Thursday.

Walsh says he's concerned because Waterloo residents make up half the county's population, but has few voices on the Emergency Management Commission. The commission consists of the mayor of each of the nine cities in the county, a representative of the county Board of Supervisors and Sheriff Tony Thompson.

County supervisor Frank Magsamen, the commission chairman, says it would be wise to get proposals on what a new system would cost before battling over the representation.
