Fog is being sited as a factor in a one-car accident in Winneshiek county that put a Waterloo couple in the hospital.

It happened at about 5:30pm Saturday on Highway 24, south of Fort Atkinson.

The driver, Jeff Haler, was traveling at a slow rate of speed, following the white fog line on the highway, as a guide. However, when he braked sharply, anticipating a sharp turn, his car went into the ditch and struck an embankment.

Haler and his passenger, Julie Haler, were taken to the Decorah hospital, to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
