Authorities have released the name of a Northeast Iowa man, who died when his motorcycle struck a horse in Southeast Minnesota.


The accident occurred Friday (June 1) at about 11:30am, west of Mabel, Minnesota, on Highway 44.

A Harley Davidson operated by 60 year old Timothy Holt of Decorah, slammed into a horse that had been grazing in a nearby ditch, but broke free of it's chain and wandered out onto the highway.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Holt swerved to avoid the impact, but the bike crashed into the horse

Holt was pronounced dead at the scene. The horse, owned by Levi Yoder of Mabel, also died.

The Minnesota State Patrol was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Fillmore County Sheriff, and Mabel EMS/Fire.
