It was Homecoming for Upper Iowa as they hosted Augustana College on Saturday, October 4, 2014. It took a comeback effort, but the Peacocks improved to 5-0 on the year, as heard on AM 950 KOEL.

The Upper Iowa Peacocks got on the board first. An early interception set up the Peacocks for an eventual Timothy Rueb field gold to take the lead 3-0 with 9:34 left in the first quarter.

Augustana answered on the very next drive with a 90-yard march for a touchdown and scored on the two-point conversion attempt. After a UIU punt, Augustana would kick a field goal to add to their lead (11-3) as the second quarter began.

Upper Iowa fired up the offense and snapped off 78-yards in two plays for a quick touchdown. Chris Smith's 61-yard run for the TD pulled the Peacocks within 1-point, 11-10.

Augustana would score another touchdown in the closing minutes of the first half, and they would take an 18-10 lead into the locker room.

UIU's Cole Jaeschke connected with Nolan Hefty for a 47-yard Peacocks touchdown within the first minute of the third quarter. The point after touchdown attempt was missed.

Augustana forced an UIU fumble and ran it back for a touchdown. That made the score 25-16 Augustana with fourteen minutes left in regulation.

Chris Smith scored his second touchdown of the night. The 5-yard scamp pulled UIU to within 2-points, 25-23. The comeback march continued for the Peacocks when Jaeschke found Shay Gutman for a 12-yard touchdown. A 2-point conversion gave the Peacocks a 31-25 lead.

With time running out late in the the game, Augustana marched the ball into the red zone. UIU's Javon Moore came up with a huge interception in the Peacocks' endzone to end the threat and seal the homecoming win for UIU.

Next up for Upper Iowa is a road trip to play Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, MN. Kickoff is set for 6:00 PM, and the game will air on AM 950 KOEL.
