A Northeast Iowa teen, seriously injured in a fireworks accident, has died of his injuries.

The incident happened at about 11:30pm Saturday (July 7), at 1650 190th Street in rural Waverly.

18 year old Coltin Carolus was shooting off fireworks with some friends, when he sustained life-threatening injuries.  According to sources, Carolus got too close to a device that could have malfunctioned, and exploded on the ground, instead of in the air.

Carolus was initially taken to the Waverly hospital, and a short time later was transferred to Covenant Hospital in Waterloo, where he was kept on life support, until about 5:30pm Sunday.

According to the Bremer County Sheriff, Carolus' organs were donated.
