Winneshiek County authorities have arrested 2 Minnesota men in connection with shots that were fired in Calmar.


The Winneshiek County Sheriff and Calmar Police were called to a disturbance or incident shortly after 4am Thursday (Sept. 6), that happened in Calmar.
Law enforcement was notified that gunshots were fired, however no one was injured.

As a result, officers have arrested 19 year old Fahad Abukar and 17 year old Daniel Burt-Vasquez, both of Rochester, Minnesota.

Abukar was charged with Felony Burglary, Felony-Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, Felony Control of a Firearm by a Felon, Aggravated Misdemeanor of Carrying Weapons, Aggravated Misdemeanor of Reckless Use of a Firearm, and Operating While Under the Influence.

Burg-Vasquez was referred to Juvenile Court Services on charges of a Felony-Going Armed with Intent, Aggravated Misdemeanor of Carrying a Weapon, and Aggravated Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.

The sheriff noted that the Decorah Police Department also charged Abukar with Operating While Under the Influence-Drug Impaired.

The Winneshiek County Attorney and Decorah Police aided in the investigation.
