Truck Driver Falls Asleep Crashing Rig Near Winthrop

A semi driver is being charged with causing an accident on Highway 20 near Winthrop.

According to the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office, it happened just before 3am last Wednesday (Oct. 10).

Brady Witzke of Ringsted was driving east on 20, when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel. The semi went into the median and struck a cross-over, finally coming to rest.

No one was injured, but there was considerable damage to the 1998 Peterbuilt semi, estimated at $65,000.

Witzke was charged with Failure to Maintain Control.
