Testimony Continues in Waterloo Murder Trial

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — An associate state medical examiner has described the nature of the fatal bullet wounds sustained by a Waterloo teen in the trial of a man accused in his shooting death.

Dr. Jonathan Thompson with the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office testified Thursday in the case against 24-year-old Perquondis Holmes, who is charged with first-degree murder. He was arrested in connection with the November 2013 slaying of 18-year-old DaeQuan Campbell.

Thompson says the second bullet to enter Campbell's body was fatal. He says the bullet broke apart as it traveled through his body and eventually pierced his heart.

Authorities say Campbell died at the wheel of a car. Thompson testified that Campbell's wounds were consistent with a person being shot in a driver's seat.
