Teams Preparing For Second-Round Of Iowa High School Football Playoffs

Fourteen Northeast Iowa teams survived the first-round of the Iowa High School football playoffs Wednesday night (October 29, 2014). Now, they're preparing for Monday's second-round games.

The pairings released by the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) feature an all-area match-up in Class-2A. New Hampton travels to La Porte City for a game against Union. The 2A slate also includes North Fayette Valley hosting Mount Vernon in West Union and Dyersville Beckman Catholic playing at Cascade.

In Class-1A, second-ranked South Winneshiek tries to stay unbeaten. The Warriors have a home game in Calmar against North Cedar of Stanwood.

Monday's Class-A schedule features District Three champion Nashua-Plainfield hosting AGWSR of Ackley and Denver playing Maquoketa Valley of Delhi. AGWSR finished second in District Four ahead third-place Denver.

In eight-player football, defending state champion Don Bosco will take a 24-game winning streak into its second-round game against Turkey Valley of Jackson Junction Monday night. The Dons will host the Trojans in Gilbertville. The other eight-player games feature third-ranked Janesville playing at home against H-L-V of Victor and Central Community hosting the Vikings of Northwood-Kensett.

Two Northeast Iowa teams in different classes will be playing on the road, just miles from each other in Cedar Rapids. Cedar Falls continues its quest for the Class-4A state crown, battling Cedar Rapids Washington at Kingston Stadium. Waverly-Shell Rock plays its Class-3A second-round game at Cedar Rapids Xavier.

Another 3A game Monday night features West Delaware hosting Solon in Manchester.

The second-round playoff games all begin at 7 p.m. on Monday. The winners advance to quarterfinal games on Friday, November 7th.
