An Independence man faces a list of charges, after Strawberry Point Police responded to the report of a suspicious vehicle.


Strawberry Point officers and the Clayton County Sheriff received a report Monday (May 7) of a suspicious vehicle that was broken down on East Mission Road in Strawberry Point, with 2 suspicious people leaving the scene. The 2 were located at about 6pm, inside of Nading's Service Station.

One of suspects, 32 year old Joshua Chamberlain of Independence, refused to give officers identification or any information, then became extremely combative, and had to be subdued.

Chamberlain was taken into custody and charged with Driving while Barred, Carrying a Dangerous Weapon (A Machete), Possession of Methamphetamine 3rd offense, Assault on a Peace Officer (Serious), Interference with Official Acts (Serious) and Fraudulent Vehicle Registration. He also had a $50,000 cash warrant out of Buchanan County for a probation violation.

An unidentified female juvenile with Chamberlain, was found to be a runaway; she was returned to her guardians.
