Salvation Army Brings In More Help

The Salvation Army of Waterloo/Cedar Falls has brought in more help from other chapters to help the Cedar Valley.

The Salvation Army of Waterloo/Cedar Falls has called in additional support to help Cedar Valley residents fighting flood waters. The Emergency Disaster Services Canteen from Davenport arrived Saturday morning to support efforts to help provide food and hydration to community volunteers and first responders as well as those impacted by the flood waters.

As of Saturday morning, nearly 500 meals and drinks have been prepared and handed out to sandbaggers in Black Hawk County.

“We are grateful for the additional support from Davenport to help us reach more people. We are committed to providing support to those who need us throughout Black Hawk County,” says Major Harold Poff.

Nearly 140 hours have been provided by more than 20 staff and volunteers toward these relief efforts.

“We will continue to provide support in the form of food and hydration through the crest and the following days. Additionally, resources in the form of flood clean-up kits are en route to the Cedar Valley. The Salvation Army is committed the long-term recovery of Black Hawk and surrounding counties.”  says Poff

The Salvation Army is often among the first on the scene when disaster strikes. Officers, staff, and volunteers are trained to meet all kinds of emergencies by providing food, shelter, clothing, and spiritual comfort.
