Rain and hail turned out to be a factor in a deadly motorcycle accident in eastern Iowa.

It happened just before 6pm Saturday (April 15) on Interstate 80, on the north edge of Iowa City.

The driver of a car had pulled off onto the shoulder of the highway, due to very heavy rain and hail.

70 year old George Taylor of LaMaille, Illinois, was riding his motorcycle eastbound on the Interstate, when he also pulled off onto the shoulder to avoid a collision with other drivers.

However, Taylor's Harley Davidson sideswiped the parked car; he was ejected from the bike. Taylor was taken to University Hospitals in Iowa City, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Taylor was not properly wearing his helmet when the accident happened.
