Classes have started, college sports are in full swing and mascots around this great country of ours are pumping up the fans for what could be a great season. Especially, when it comes to Iowa Hawkeye Football and our well known Herky. But one professor at the University of Iowa thinks Herky's face will traumatize students. WHAT!?

Yep, there is a softer than soft professor at the U of I that thinks Herky needs a friendlier face and she's actually doing something about it. (We're laughing as we write this). She even emailed the athletic department asking for a friendlier face and added that email to a message she sent to other faculty members in the UI Faculty Senate.

“I believe incoming students should be met with welcoming, nurturing, calm, accepting and happy messages, And our campus community is doing a great job in that regard when it comes to words. However, Herky’s angry, to say the least, faces conveying an invitation to aggressivity and even violence are not compatible with the verbal messages that we try to convey to and instill in our students and campus community." - Resmiye Oral, a clinical professor of pediatrics (source - Iowa Press Citizen)

Well, it's not all crazy and bad. Ms. Oral wants to included more faces and she doesn't want the university to get rid of the angry face altogether. Regardless, we've seen 5 year olds high-five Herky with no issues. So, to say it will traumatize students is, in our opinion, a surely ridiculous opinion by a professor who thinks her ideas should be spread across campus.

Go Hawkeyes and be safe Herky, you may be smiling soon...but probably not. I hope students don't have nightmares after they see you.

Someone has WAY too much time on her hands.

As you can see in the video below, EVERYONE seems to be traumatized....oh wait..they don't.
