The Bremer County Attorney's Office has now released the names of the officers involved in a deadly shooting near Nashua.


The incident began at about 8:30pm January 17th, when the Floyd County Sheriff got a report of a man holding a gun to his own head at Love's Truck Stop in the town of Floyd.

The subject, later identified as 29 year old Jihad Merrick of Minneapolis, fled on Highway 218, reaching speeds of over 100 mph. He stopped his vehicle in Bremer County near Nashua, got out of his car, and again point a gun at his head. Merrick then got back in his car.

After 40 minutes of negotiations with law enforcement, Merrick fired a shot inside the car, but was not hurt. When officers tried to arrest him, Merrick drove his car forward, hitting one of the officers.

Two of the officers then fired their weapons, striking and killing Merrick.

The County Attorney has now identified the law enforcement personnel involved in the incident. They were:
Iowa State Trooper Nathaniel Miller, Trooper Chris Forsyth, Trooper Ken Haut, Bremer County Deputy Glenn Beenblossom, Chief of Nashua Police Travis Marvin, Nashua Police Officer Benjamin Scholl, and Chickasaw County Deputy Adam Hanson.

There was no indication which officer fired the fatal shot(s).
