Officer Involved in a Shooting at Railroad Yard

Northern Iowa authorities are investigating a shooting involving a railroad police officer.

At about 4:30pm Thursday (Nov. 29), Mason City Police were called out on the report of a shooting on 9th Street Northwest. The location was near All Aboard Storage, a business at the Union Pacific Railroad Yard in Mason City.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound; he was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. There was no indication on the severity of his wounds.

The railroad officer was evaluated for minor injuries.

Names have not yet been released.

Mason City Police and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are looking into the officer-involved shooting.

Authorities were also assisted by the Union Pacific Railroad Staff, Mason City Fire Department, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff's Office, and the Iowa State Patrol.
