Oelwein Driver Hurt and Charged in Accident

An Oelwein man has been injured, and faces several charges, in a one-vehicle accident in Linn County.

The accident was reported just before 4am Sunday (Sept. 23), in the 3100 block of "C" Avenue Extension, north of Marion.

39 year old Graig Bemiss was driving north, when he lost control of his vehicle; his car went into the ditch and struck a tree.

Bemiss was taken by Lifeguard Air Ambulance, to St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, with what the Linn County Sheriff describes as serious injuries.

Bemiss is being charged with Operating While Intoxicated-3rd Offense, Open Container, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Driving While Barred, Failure to Maintain Control, and not having insurance.

The Linn County Sheriff reports that Bemiss was wearing his seatbelt.
