The City of Oelwein is another step closer to having a single-hauler garbage pickup program.

At last night's council meeting, the Oelwein City Council directed the city staff to negotiate with Black Hawk Waste services.

After a contract is ready, it will be brought back to the council for approval. The single hauler program will then be implemented.

According to city officials, it is hoped that a contract will be ready for approval at the next council meeting, which is September 25th, although it may take a bit longer to agree to a contract that will best serve the public.

The single-hauler garbage plan is for residential customers, and not businesses.
