DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — Two Dubuque men accused of running a meth lab that ignited a fire at an apartment building last year have been sentenced to federal prison.

A report from the U.S. Attorney's Office says 47-year-old John Starks Sr. was sentenced Tuesday in Cedar Rapids to 16 years in prison without parole, and 25-year-old Casey Duhme received a nine-year prison sentence.

The men were charged with attempting to make methamphetamine in an apartment building located within 1,000 feet of a Dubuque elementary school, which resulted in a fire that rendered the building uninhabitable.Starks and Duhme took plea deals in June to conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine near a school.

Starks and Duhme have also been ordered to pay $322,281 in restitution to the owner of the building, tenants and an insurance company.
