An Elgin man faces several charges after a Friday evening standoff.

At about 5pm Friday, the Fayette County Sheriff received a report of a domestic assault at a home just outside Elgin, and that a firearm was involved.

When deputies arrived, it was learned the victim left the residence; officers then attempted to get the suspect, identified as 44 year old Craig Lenhart, to safely come out of the house. He refused and barricaded himself inside, making threats against law enforcement.

Authorities were informed that Lenhart was armed with a firearm; officers then set up a perimeter, shutting down parts of nearby Highway 56 as a precaution.

At about 6pm, Fayette County Sheriff Marty Fisher entered the home; Lenhart went for a firearm, and Fisher deployed a taser, disabling Lenhart. He was then arrested and charged with domestic abuse causing serious injury, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, and interference with official acts.

The Fayette County Sheriff was assisted by West Union Police, Fayette Police, Clayton County sheriff, Monona Police, Iowa DNR, and Iowa State Patrol.
