Authorities have released the name of the person killed in a two-vehicle accident that closed down the Julien Dubuque Bridge for several hours.


The accident was reported at about 1am Wednesday, on the Illinois side of the bridge. A car driven by 37 year old Nathan Scott of Dubuque had broken down, and he and his passenger were in the process of pushing the vehicle the rest of the way across the bridge.

Their car was hit from behind by a vehicle driven by 25 year old Whitaker Ingles of Dyersville. Scott's passenger, now identified as 30 year old Luke Billmeyer of Dubuque, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ingles and his passenger, 27 year old Sara Wells of Dubuque, were taken to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque; there was no word on their condition.

Scott was transported to the Galena, Illinois hospital for treatment.

The accident closed down the Julien Dubuque Bridge for about 8 hours. It's still under investigation by the East Dubuque, Illinois Police Department.
