Memorial Day Oelwein Cemetery Reminder

The annual Memorial Day service will be conducted at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Oelwein at 8:30 A.M. on Memorial Day by the Oelwein American Legion Ross Reid Post #9.

This year, Floral Hills has arranged for Glen Chatfield, a well-known bagpipe player, to add the gift of his musical talent to the service. Mr. Chatfield will begin playing 15 minutes before the service as the guests arrive. In case of inclement weather, the Memorial Service will not be cancelled at Floral Hills, rather, the services will be held in the Floral Hills Funeral Home Chapel.

Memorial Day flowers, not in a bronze vase or on a shepherd’s hook, may be placed at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens starting Friday, May 22th until Sunday May 31st.

Flowers that are not in a bronze vase or hanging on a shepherd’s hook, need to be removed from the cemetery by Sunday, May 31st. The cemetery staff will clean the cemetery of all other flowers that are not in an approved vase or on a shepherd’s hook on Monday, June 1st so that the cemetery can be mowed.
