Man Seriously Hurt in Lawn Tractor Accident

A weekend accident involving a lawn tractor in Linn County has put a Missouri man in the hospital with very serious injuries.

It happened at about 3:30pm Saturday (May 13) on Lincoln Heights Drive SE on the east edge of Cedar Rapids.

61 year old Joseph Hughes of Macon, Missouri, was in the process of mowing grass on a steep embankment, when he lost control of his lawn tractor. The vehicle rolled over, pinning Hughes underneath.

Hughes was initially taken to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, but then flown to University Hospitals in Iowa City, with what Linn County authorities are calling "life threatening" injuries.

The accident is still under investigation.
