A man trapped in a grain bin in Northeast Iowa, was able to walk away with few, if any injuries, thanks to the help of local fire departments.

On Monday afternoon, the Sumner Volunteer Fire Department responded to the report of a man trapped in a grain bin in rural Bremer County. Responding firefighters found the man, trapped waste deep in corn, inside the bin.

The fire crew quickly deployed a cofferdam, a type of grain bin rescue tube, which prevented the man from being buried even more. They also used a mini-rescue auger, removing some of the corn from around the trapped man.

After about 3 hours of work, the man was freed from the grain, and was able to get out of the bin under his own power. The man's name was not released, and it was not known if he sustained any injuries.

The Sumner Volunteer Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Sumner EMS, the Bremer County Sheriff's Office, Readlyn EMS, and Bremer County Emergency Management.
