Besides cleaning crime from city streets, the Oelwein Police Department took some time to beautify the community, too.
On Wednesday (Sept. 28), Oelwein Police officers volunteered their time to plant ten new trees at the Veterans Sports Complex.

The trees were planted between the two city ball diamonds.

The new trees are intended to provide instant beautification and a substance-free environment, as well as future shade for spectators, and a natural barrier for foul balls, from one diamond to the next.

According to Oelwein Police Chief Jeremy Logan, “Our officers work each day to make this community safe and a better place to live. I am proud that they are willing to give their free time as well to help improve this area of the community for years to come.”

The officers were assisted by the Oelwein Parks Department.
